On behalf of the organising committee for ISAN2009 we thank you for coming to Sydney, Australia, for the 6th Congress of the International Society for Autonomic Neuroscience. Details of the meeting are available at the ISAN2009 website.

It is 12 years since the inaugural meeting of ISAN, held in Cairns in the tropical north of Australia – the country where ISAN was born. The venue of ISAN2009 was Sydney, cosmopolitan home to 5 million people from around the world and host city of the 2000 Olympic Games - a city founded on one of the world’s most beautiful natural harbours, a city of broad international appeal. ISAN2009 was held at the Manly Pacific Hotel right on Manly Beach, the most popular of Sydney’s northern beaches and a half-four ferry ride from Circular Quay in the centre of Sydney.

ISAN2009 was a truly international meeting, and was held in conjunction with the European Federation of Autonomic Societies (EFAS). The four-day program included four plenary lectures and 18 symposia, covering a range of topics that extended from cellular communication within the autonomic nervous system to the autonomic consequences of spinal cord injury. The ISAN2009 International Programming Committee, chaired by Professor Yvette Taché, played a major role in the development of the excellent scientific program. Each symposium also included a presentation selected from submitted abstracts. In addition, Elsevier generaous supported prizes for the best oral and poster presentations by early career researchers.

We thank you for coming to Sydney!
